GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - The Sportsline Player of the Week for Week 7 is a defensive guy that came up big in a huge rivalry game. He is also a young man that has overcome a ton of adversity as well.
East Ascension senior defensive back Jacquel Jacobs intercepted St. Amant's first pass on the first play of the contest and returned it for a touchdown. The crowd went crazy in Gonzales as Jacobs was just getting started.
As a matter of fact he would pull off the hat trick with three interceptions in all against the Gators. The Spartans went on to beat then 6-0 St. Amant, 31-10.
For Jacobs, it is personally a wonderful turnaround from a season ago when an injury knocked him out of action.
"Last year I tore my ACL and meniscus," said Jacquel Jacobs. "So after rehabbing a long six months, coming back finally being on the field, it felt good."
Paul B -"Surgeries are so dramatic on those young men," said Paul B. "The whole process is not very good. That's the support we're talking about. To see him come out of it and have the senior year he's having, I'm so happy for him.
"It was a lot better feeling that it happened against St Amant," said Jacobs. "Knowing they were 6-0, we were ready to end their streak."
