HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a motorcyclist died after colliding head-on with a sport utility vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Louisiana State Police reported the crash happened on US 190 West past I-55 near Hammond around 3:30 p.m.
The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Morgan Ellsworth Welch of Shreveport, LA.
Tpr. Dustin Dwight with LSP said the investigation showed the motorcycle drifted into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an Isuzu Trooper. He added investigators have not yet been able to determine what caused the motorcycle to cross into the other lane.
According to Dwight, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but still suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.
Troopers said the driver of the SUV provided a voluntary breath sample, which yielded no trace amounts of alcohol. They added the driver will not be charged.
Investigators reported a blood sample was taken from the motorcyclist and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing.
