Panel rejects 'inner loop' plan for Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Another loop theory meant to move traffic in Baton Rouge has apparently been cast aside Tuesday before gaining any real traction.

The Louisiana Transportation Authority rejected a bid from project backers to build what they were calling an 'inner' loop.

The loop would have connected I-10 to Airline Highway near Pecue Lane, with a massively redeveloped Airline Highway becoming a high speed toll road.

The project was originally billed as a privately-funded one, but a consultant hired by the state said it could have cost taxpayers up to $400 million.
