ST. MARTINVILLE, LA (WAFB) - The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Department says they have arrested two men in connection with a burglary and a hit and run at a gas station in St. Martinville Friday.
Deputies say they received a call about a man who had fallen through the roof of an Exxon Station in the 2900 block of Grand Point Highway. They later received a call of a hit and run at the same location.
When deputies arrived at the gas station, they learned that a black male suspect had fallen through the roof of the store and attempted to flee. A struggle ensued when the store clerk attempted to chase the suspect into an adjoining parking lot.
The suspect managed to get loose and to get into the passenger side of a two-door black Honda Accord. While attempting to flee the scene, the driver, who was later identified as 33-year-old Demanuel Royal of Baton Rouge, struck the clerk with the vehicle before fleeing on I-10 Eastbound.
Deputies later spotted the two men in Rosedale where they were arrested.
During the investigation, Deputies learned that the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Ricky Cook of Baton Rouge, entered the bathroom at the rear of the store. While in the bathroom, he climbed into a crawl space and entered into the store's office through the ceiling. When he attempted to leave the office by climbing back through the ceiling, he fell through and landed in the middle of the store.
The clerk was taken to a nearby hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
Both suspects were booked into the Iberville Parish Jail and then transported to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
Cook has been charged with simple burglary and Royal has been charged with hit and run.
