ALSEN, LA (WAFB) - Residents in the Alsen community could soon see lower insurance rates now that their fire department has improved its rating. In some cases, rates are based on a fire department's rating and the Alsen Fire Department recently received a class 4 rating.
"We are really elated about the news we got," said Alsen Fire Chief Lawrence Duncan. "Of course, I can't take credit for this myself- it was a team effort."
Deborah Dunn lives in the small area of Alsen, close to Baker, and says she is excited about the news.
"For one thing it can help us with our insurance, it will lower it, and they are very helpful," she said. "I have blood pressure problems and they do check it and they are so caring and when I back home from the doctor they always call and check on me."
Chief Duncan says as the department continues to improve, they will need more volunteers.
"I'm really just happy more or less for the community," he said. "I know that the manpower that I have is working and we are becoming a team. It's all about being a team. There's nothing you can do alone."
