Sheriff's deputy suffers fractured arm in crash with 18-wheeler

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Witnesses said a deputy with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office was taken to the hospital after his unit collided with an 18-wheeler Friday morning.

The crash happened on the Florida Boulevard Service Road between Central Throughway and Flannery Road around 6:15 a.m.

Emergency responders had to take off the driver's side door to remove the deputy from the vehicle.

Casey Rayborn Hicks, spokeswoman for EBRSO, said the deputy suffered a fractured arm as a result of the crash. The deputy's name was not released.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The wreck resulted in the closure of the right lane on Florida for a few hours. The roadway was reopened around 10:30 a.m.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
