BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana Supreme Court said the Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System, or LASERS, was within its rights to reduce a former Southern System President's retirement pay.

The high court ruled Wednesday that an appeals court was wrong in agreeing with Ralph Slaughter that the retirement board had no right to reduce his retirement pay.

LASERS said they had overpaid Slaughter by including work he also did for the SU Foundation in calculating his benefits.

The case now heads back to the district court for them to change the ruling.
