BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The whole Baton Rouge community joins hands to answer the needs of the poor every year through the Salvation Army Angel Tree. The Baton Rouge Salvation Army has begun accepting applications from families who need assistance, not just toys, but clothing too.
Last year, after The Army launched its drive with fanfare and Ho Ho Ho merriment in Town Square, the program ended up providing 29,000 gifts of new clothing and toys to 4,023 children in the Greater Baton Rouge area. These kids would have received little or nothing for Christmas, were it not for the kindness that people show through their donations.
Sign-up sessions for families have already taken place in the West Brookstown area of Baton Rouge, The Army's Headquarters on Airline Highway in North Baton Rouge, and First United Methodist Church in Gonzales.
The next big sign up session will be October 19th and 20th at the Scott Civic Center, 1200 Major Parkway in New Roads from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
People who wish to apply need to bring a few things with them:
If you do not receive Food Stamps, you will need to provide a picture ID, birth certificates on all qualifying children, Social Security Cards for
everyone living in the household, proof of all household income, proof of all expenses, and proof of their current address. If you do receive
Food Stamps, just bring a detailed Food Stamp print out listing your household information, social security cards for individuals listed on the print out, and current picture identification. Be sure you bring all the applicants in-person with you when you apply.
