BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The St. George Fire Department says they saved a puppy from a house fire that tore through the roof of a home on Springhaven Drive.
First responders were called to the home at 11:51 a.m. and arrived five minutes later to find fire coming through the roof near the back of the residence, says Department spokesperson Eldon Ledoux. Fire officials say they were able to get the flames under control in just eight minutes after arrival.
No one was home when units arrived on scene. A puppy that was overcome by the smoke was found while searching for potential victims, according to a news release from Ledoux. The dog was taken away from the home and was revived with no obvious side effects.
Officials say that the fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
Despite the quick extinguishing, the fire did heavy damage to the home. The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time.
