812-mile march to honor fallen airmen passes through Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A group of Special Tactics Airmen passed through Baton Rouge on Friday to honor 19 of their fallen teammates.

The 812 mile march is in remembrance of Capt. Matthew Roland and SSgt Forrest Sibley, who were killed in action in September as well as all 19 Special Tactics pararescuemen and combat controllers who have been killed in action since 2001.

The march began on October 4 at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, and will end on October 13 outside of Hurlburt Field in Florida after nearly 10 days of marching across five states.

“We do this arduous march to commemorate and honor fallen members of Air Force Special Tactics and their families. These warriors gave their lives in defense of freedom and our nation's security, and so every step of every mile is in memory of that sacrifice,” ret. Chief Master Sgt. Steven Haggett said. “We hope to show all Americans that while these heroes may be gone, they will never be forgotten.”
