BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A grand jury indicted a man Thursday on charges of manslaughter and aggravated battery for a shooting that killed a man and injured a child.
John Parker, 21, of Baton Rouge, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon in the shooting death of his mother's boyfriend, 39-year-old David White Jr.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said White and his child were shot on Skysail Avenue near Helm Drive on Saturday, June 6 around 7 p.m.
According to detectives, Parker and White got into a fight at their home and Parker grabbed a gun. Deputies reported Parker fired multiple shots, hitting both White and his child. It is believed Parker then ran away from the scene.
White and the child were both taken to the hospital where White later died. The child survived.
Parker was later arrested on Chimneywood Drive.
