DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating an accident that left a Denham Springs man dead.
According to State Troopers with Troop A, 20-year-old Patrick Dodson was riding a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on LA 1019 at approximately 8 p.m. Friday when he failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the northbound lane. Dodson then struck a vehicle driven by 49-year-old James Stutzman Jr. of Denham Springs head-on and was ejected from his motorcycle.
Troopers say despite wearing a helmet, Dodson received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner's Office. A routine toxicology test was taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
During the investigation, State Troopers discovered that Dodson did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement.
Stutzman, who was properly restrained at the time of the accident, did not receive any injuries. He submitted to a breathalyzer test and showed no detectable signs of impairment.
The accident remains under investigation.
