BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man was arrested after refusing to come out with his two children in a standoff in Baton Rouge Friday afternoon.
Police arrived to the 1500 block of Lake Calais Court around 4 p.m. after a woman called saying she was having an argument with her boyfriend. When they arrived, police say the woman had escaped but the man, 24-year-old Stephonne Lewis, was still inside with their two kids. According to police, the woman said Lewis was allegedly high.
A probable cause report from the BRPD says that Lewis shook his 2-year-old child and attempted to throw them down the stairs.
Police say Lewis refused to come out with the children, but they are unsure if he used a gun during the standoff, though weapons were present inside the home.
The standoff lasted about two hours before police entered the home and brought out the two young children, who were unharmed. Lewis was taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries he sustained before being taken into custody by police.
Lewis was booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of cruelty to a juvenile, domestic abuse battery, and resisting an officer. No bond has been set yet.
