BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Mayor of Denham Springs responded to people saying they want to lend a hand in any way they can.
His solution is to enhance the city's police reserve program. Mayor Gerard Landry says he's got currently active reserve officers with three in training.
Mayor Landry says that an improved reserve program was a no-brainer after the recent rash of violence against police across the nation.
"A part of the solution lies with the community," said Mayor Landry. "If you go back to the Denham Springs Police Department that started back in 1958, there's always been a reserve program.
Mayor Landry says that more reserve officers means better security at events like football games.
