The Livonia Wildcats got another big game from quarterback Cee Jay Powell, who starred in last year's 3A title game at the Superdome, and beat Amite again on the road Thursday night 38-26. Powell had 214 yards rushing, ran for three touchdowns and passed for a fourth score as 4A Livonia (4-1) won in its final tune-up before district play. Amite (3-2) also begins 7-3A action next week.
Kentwood's Kangaroos scored the first two times they touched the ball on a Lorenz Morris punt return and a Shyheim Carter TD pass to Jaleel Hampton, and never looked back in a 38-0 victory over winless East Iberville. Freshman Trey Palmer added a pick six as Kentwood (4-1) did all the scoring in the first half against the Tigers. East Iberville (0-5) has been outscored 270-34 this season and has lost 30 straight games dating back to a 24-0 win over Ascension Christian on October 12, 2012.
Live Oak (3-2) won its final tune-up for district play routing Broadmoor. Senior Will Higginbotham's TD run gave the Eagles what turned out to be the game-winning score and a 14-0 lead over the Bucs. Junior Edwards followed with a punt return for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead. Brett Beard's team scored four more times in the 49-8 blowout. The eight points is a season high for Broadmoor (0-5), which has been outscored 156-26.
