THIBODAUX, LA (WAFB) - The parents of a 4-year-old were arrested Tuesday, September 29 around 10 a.m. after their 4-year-old was found wandering in the street in Thibodaux, La.
The child was seen walking along Talbot Avenue and a woman used her vehicle to block traffic to keep the child safe. The woman watched after the child until deputies with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office arrived.
Deputies arrived with fresh diapers, a car seat and other items for the child, who was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
Deputies, with help from area residents, were able to determine the child lived in Solar Trailer Park. At the home, they found the front door ajar and no one inside.
Just after 11 a.m., deputies say the child's mother, Patrice Arcement, arrived and was told what happened. During questioning, investigators learned Arcement and the boy's father, Joseph Thomas, decided to leave the 4-year-old at home to run errands.
Both Arcement and Thomas were arrested and booked with child desertion. They were released from jail after each posting a $5,000 bond.
