LAKE CHARLES, LA (WAFB) -

The man accused of killing a Louisiana State Trooper is due back in court Thursday.

Kevin Daigle, 54, was arrested back in August for the murder of Trooper Steven Vincent, 44. He was indicted by a grand jury on Sept. 3.

Daigle is charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, second degree murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

The second degree murder charge is for the death of 54-year-old Blake Laverne Brewer who was found dead in his home the day after the Trooper was shot.

Brewer died of a shotgun blast to his torso in his home on Hollyvale Road in Moss Bluff.

Officials say Daigle shot Brewer, his sometimes roommate, then taking Brewer's truck. After getting the truck stuck in a ditch, Daigle is accused of shooting and killing the responding state trooper, Steven Vincent.

The Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office will seek the death penalty in the case. Earlier September, lawyers for Daigle field motions to try and protect his rights.

Daigle currently is locked up in Calcasieu Parish Prison.
