POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A recent audit of the Pointe Coupee Police Jury showed that for a second year there was a nearly million dollar deficit and the parish is still violating state law.
A financial report for 2014 showed the Police Jury ran up a $906,722 deficit in its Detention Center Fund, which is a violation of Louisiana's budget law. According to the report, that deficit was also found in 2013.
The Police Jury said it plans to transfer money from its General Fund to get rid of that hole.
The report also shows the parish spent 11.4 percent more than was budgeted in its General Fund, which is also not allowed.
