Money Monday: Filling your social calendar with free events

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - If you're looking to fill your social calendar this week but don't want to break the bank, there are plenty of free events for you to sign up for.

There are several money saving events and opportunities this week and also the highly anticipated opening of a discount store.

Thanks to the Women's Council of Greater Baton Rouge, here is a list of mostly free activities happening in and around the Capitol City.

From now through October 4, you can visit Women's Week BR's website to see the calendar of events. Participants can find anything from sushi-rolling class to weight loss seminars and fitness courses. You do not need to register for some of the events.

One free event, such as The Truth about Paying for Long Term Care: Medicare, Long Term Care Insurance, Medicaid and VA Benefits, is a seminar that discusses everything you need to know to make an informed decision about how to protect yourself from the devastation that can be caused when facing long term care costs. Everyone attending will receive a FREE Dignity Memorial Veterans Planning Guide.

Another free event is about aromatherapy. During this session, you can discover the soothing powers of scents and smells, and create your own bath salts using essential oils.

The Women's Council is a non-profit that wants to connect and empower women in our community.

A grand opening this week in Baton Rouge at the Mall of Louisiana will happen Thursday, October 1. Shoppers at the new Nordstrom Rack can get discounts on designer labels, anywhere from 30 to 70 percent off.

There is a lot of buzz about this store because this will be the first Nordstrom store in Louisiana. It is opening in the old American Factory Direct location.
On Saturday, October 3, families can enjoy a free pirates and princesses party at the USS Kidd Veterans Museum in Baton Rouge from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
