BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge woman has been arrested after police say she slammed her 9-year-old daughter's head into a wall.
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Deputies were called to a home in the 12600 block of La Margie Saturday about a complaint about a child being abused.
When deputies and Baton Rouge EMS arrived on the scene, they discovered a 9-year-old girl with a contusion on the right side of her forehead.
The 9-year-old told deputies that she received the contusion when her mother, 27-year-old Leticia Brothers, pulled her hair and slammed her head into a wall.
While at the scene, deputies also observed that the home had minimal food in the pantry and refrigerator, minimal furnishings and no beds. Brothers' children told deputies that all 10 of them slept in the same bedroom.
According to deputies, Brothers told them that she hit the child because she was disciplining her. She also told them that the reason for the lack of furniture and food in the home was because she was "in the process of trying to get started collecting Child Support through DCFS".
The Office of Child Services were contacted and they also decided that the home was inadequate for Brothers and the children to live in. They also determined that the contusion on the 9-year-old's head was consistent with abuse.
Brothers was arrested and charged with child endangerment law (domestic abuse), cruelty to juveniles and criminal neglect of family and encouraging child delinquent/neglect.
Her bond has not yet been set.
