A Southern University wide receiver is in high spirits after a successful spinal surgery on Sunday afternoon, says the school.
Devon Gales suffered several fractures in his neck during Saturday's football game against top-ranked Georgia. University officials say that Gales continues to have movement in his upper body and remains in good spirits. The football player will remain at Athens General in Georgia until he is sent back to Baton Rouge for further treatment.
The Gales family and Southern University thanked Athens General, the University of Georgia, and Gales' caretakers during this ordeal.
