NEW ROADS, LA (WAFB) - A suspect was arrested in a late Saturday night shooting that left one injured.

Police say they have arrested 21-year-old Cleotha Johnigan who is believed to be the shooter and that he and his family are cooperating with the investigation.

Police were called to the Pointe Coupee Multi-Use Center at 9:15 p.m. about a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the foot and a graze wound to the head. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.

According to police, a large crowd had gathered for a concert and horse riding when a fight broke out. They say the victim was shot towards the back of the complex, behind the large arena.

"There was a fight that broke out and multiple subjects were involved and somebody just decided to pull out a gun and start shooting," says New Roads Police Chief Kevin McDonald.

The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
