Despite a lackluster performance by No. 8 LSU, Heisman Trophy contender Leonard Fournette's performance was anything but, rushing for 244 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns to lead his Tigers past Syracuse 34-24.

Fournette now has 631 yards for the season in three games. LSU (3-0) pulled away in the fourth quarter, even though another 87 yard touchdown by Fournette was wiped by a penalty.

The Tigers were penalized 14 times for 119 yards in what appeared to be a lethargic effort for a game that started at 11:00 a.m. Central time.

Syracuse (3-1) entered the game a 24-point underdog, but only trailed 24-17 in the fourth quarter after third string Orange quarterback Zack Mahoney, who was elevated to starter because of injuries, fired the second of his three touchdown passes.

LSU has now won 50 consecutive games against non-conference opponents in the regular season.

Brandon Harris was only 8 of 16 passing for 157 yards, but his fourth quarter 11-yard scoring strike to Malachi Dupre restored the Tigers' two-touchdown lead.

Harris helped Fournette get 48 yards rushing on a first quarter play, when he avoided a sack by pitching to his sophomore tailback at the last moment, and Fournette added a 62-yard touchdown burst in the third quarter.

Tre'Davious White had LSU's biggest play of the day that counted, a 69-yard punt return for a touchdown, the second of his career for the Shreveport senior.

LSU will take on Eastern Michigan in the Tiger Stadium on October 3. The kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
