BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a village clerk accused of theft and malfeasance in office.
Brandi Deaton, 29, turned herself into authorities after she was accused of stealing more than $16,000 in fees and fines from her job as assistant clerk for the Village of Port Vincent.
Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard says that she was supposed to deposit the fees into the Village of Port Vincent account, but was depositing funds into her personal bank account instead.
She served as village clerk from October 2013 to March 2015.
Deaton was officially charged with felony theft, injuring public records, and malfeasance in office.
Deaton bailed out of the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a $60,500 bond.
