GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

While blocking a roadway in Gonzales to investigate a crash that happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, a Department of Transportation and Development vehicle and a Louisiana State Trooper vehicle were involved in a second crash.

The first crash happened on LA 30 at Ashland Road in Gonzales.

The LSP Trooper used his marked State Police vehicle, with emergency lights activated, to block the roadway while DOTD workers cleared the scene.

That is when troopers say 36-year-old Rickey Denny Jr. of Brooksville, FL drove through the crash scene and hit the trooper's vehicle with his Ford F-350.

The impact caused the LSP unit to rotate and hit a DOTD vehicle. Both vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the crash and no one was injured.

Denney was placed under arrest for DWI and upon submitting to a breath alcohol test, registered nearly three times the legal limit, according to LSP officials. Denney was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail for DWI, reckless operation, driving under suspension, and failure to obey officer’s signal.
