Pope Francis arrives in Washington DC

WASHINGTON D.C. (WAFB) -

Months of anticipation came to an end Tuesday afternoon with the arrival of Pope Francis. The pope settled into Washington D.C.

It is Pope Francis' first time ever in the U.S. He is resting Tuesday night at the Vatican embassy.  

He said the purpose of his visit is to draw closer to Americans, our path, our history, and his visit begins in earnest at the White House Wednesday.
