EBRSO: Mother drops off, leaves infant in alley

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a woman they say dropped off and left her infant child in an alley way.

Deputies say they received a call on September 18 just before 7 p.m. about a 1-year-old being dropped off in an alley by a woman who was later identified as 19-year-old Miochia Paul.

When deputies arrived, they learned that Paul pulled up around 6:30 p.m. in the 10200 block of Avenue L and removed the infant from the vehicle. She then instructed a group of juveniles to take the infant to its dad who was not there and left.

According to deputies, they made several attempts to contact Paul to tell her to come back to the scene and retrieve her child but was unsuccessful.

The child was taken to the Fourth District Precinct where Child Services took custody of the child.

Deputies finally got in contact with Paul three days later. She was arrested and taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where she has been charged with Child Desertion.

Paul's bail has been set at $3500.
