French Settlement residents to vote on method of selecting new police chief

FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA (WAFB) - In Livingston Parish, voters will decide the future of French Settlement's new chief of police.

The village aldermen were considering an ordinance that will allow people to vote on whether they want to continue electing a new chief or have the mayor appoint someone.

The French Settlement Board of Aldermen passed the ordinance Monday night with a two-thirds vote.

Currently, the residents of the Village of French Settlement elect a chief to a four-year term. Harry Brignac has been elected police chief for 30 years.

The new proposal will be on the November 21 ballot.
