BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Leonard Fournette entered the Heisman Trophy race Saturday afternoon with a career-best 228 yards rushing on just 19 carriers, scoring three touchdowns in No.13 LSU's 45-21 romp over 18th-ranked Auburn.

Fournette raced 71 yards on LSU's first play from scrimmage and ran over Auburn defensive back Blake Countess on a 40-yard touchdown to close out the first half scoring. LSU (2-0, 2-0) dominated at halftime with a 24-0 lead.

The sophomore from New Orleans shook off would-be tackler Tray Matthews for a 29-yard scoring run in the second half. He finished just 22 yards shy of Alley Broussard's school-record 250 yards rushing against Ole Miss in 2004.

Sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris added 66 yards rushing to go with 74 yards passing on a 12-of-17 day. LSU rolled up 411 rushing yards and averaged 8.6 yards a carry, compared to just 4.3 for Auburn. Harris ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third to junior tight end Colin Jeter on a 1-yard touchdown, getting some redemption for last year's 41-7 loss to Gus Malzahn's team on the road.

LSU finished with 485 yards of total offense against former LSU assistant Will Muschamp's defense, while Auburn (2-1, 0-1) managed just 260 yards.

With less than 6 minutes in the game, LSU linebacker Deion Jones was penalized for targeting and was disqualified from the game. He will also miss the first half of the next game when the Tigers travel to Syracuse for an 11 a.m. kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 26.
