BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The State Bond Commission gave the LSU Lakes project the green light Thursday. The project will receive $2 million that will go towards work on the lakes.
That means experts can begin studying how to dredge the lakes in hopes to prevent the area from eventually returning to the wetlands it once was.
Work could include adding more land between the road and the lake, which some worry may leave room for more businesses to build.
"There is no commercial activity proposed on the lakes," said "We're talking about dredging the lakes to a healthy depth, restoring the edges in most cases to what they once were, some certainly a little more."
Plans remain to make the Lakes a read destination spot for everyone, including new amenities like a new trail, bike path and cafe.
Baton Rouge Area Foundation is heading up the effort.
