BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There will be a few extra Santas running around Baton Rouge this December.
Baton Rouge leaders announced Monday the first-ever "Running of the Santas" pub crawl.
The "Running of the Santas" is a popular New Orleans event that's making its debut in the Capital City on December 5, starting at 2 p.m. Hundreds of costumed runners will take over Third Street, competing for best dressed.
"The actual run is about four blocks, so it's not a real run," said Matthew Willard with the event. "We have some people that try to sprint it, most people go through a stroll, and some people actually walk it. So you don't have to be in shape. There's no training involved."
Part of the proceeds benefit That Others May Live Foundation, a charity that helps the children of U.S. Air Force members killed during rescue missions.
The event was first held in 1998 when 40 friends suited up in festive outfits to go bar hopping in downtown Philadelphia. Since then, it has been hosted in more than 20 cities around the world, attracting thousands.
