BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An overload of violence across East Baton Rouge Parish over the weekend forces area families to start their week making funeral arrangements.
Baton Rouge Police say 25-year-old Herbert Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday morning on I-10. Police say it was not random. Before the shooting, Williams' family said he was staying with his girlfriend in a Baker neighborhood off of Groom Rd.
Three other people were in the car with Williams at the time he was shot, according to Baton Rouge Police. They were not hurt.
Meanwhile, new information from the East Baton Rouge Coroner's Office Monday backs up what the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said Sunday about a triple murder/suicide near Central.
The sheriff said 60-year-old Rodney Chemin shot and killed 57-year-old Joseph Allen, 55-year-old Perry Allen and 51-year-old Mark Allen, after watching football Saturday night at a neighborhood home on Talmadge Crumholt Rd. EBRSO said after shooting the three brothers in the driveway, Chemin turned the gun on himself.
Family members say they're still completely in shock because the men were all best friends.
"He cared about everybody. He would never hurt anybody, never. I can't believe that," neighbor Suzanne Wheeler said about Chemin.
The five deaths Sunday mark 64 homicides for the year. That's up 12 compared to this same time in 2014.
At last check Monday with BRPD, the I-10 murder has no known suspects or motives.
