BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

An unknown number of customers were without water service in the Bluebonnet Boulevard area Monday afternoon.

The Baton Rouge Water Company said it is currently making emergency repairs to a 20-inch main water line.

The affected area includes Bluebonnet Boulevard between Perkins Road and Highland Road. Company spokesman Hays Owen said service is expected to be restored to full capacity by 6 p.m. Monday.

Water users in the affected area are asked to boil any water that is to be used for human consumption. The boil advisory will be in effect for 48 hours after water is restored.

Owen said the boil water notice is a precaution recommended by state guidelines. He said water will be tested for safety and those results could take up to 48 hours to get back.
