BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Crews were called out to a crash early Monday morning involving a Baton Rouge police officer.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported it happened on I-10 West near the College Drive exit around 2:30 a.m.

Cpl. Don Coppola said the officer was distracted and when he looked up, the vehicle in front of him was moving slower than average speed and he rear-ended it.

He added both vehicles had minor damage. No one was taken to the hospital by EMS.

The officer's name was not released. He was not issued any citation, but it is possible he will face disciplinary action from the department, according to Coppola.

The two right lanes of I-10 West were blocked for about an hour following the crash. The far right lane remained closed until just before 5 a.m.
