YMCA hosts series of fitness classes to get people active

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The healthy BR initiative along with the YMCA is holding an event to encourage area citizens to get up and get active with a series of engaging fitness classes.

The event, called Fitness Rocks, features a lineup of top local instructors leading a variety of fitness classes aiming to get participants sweating.Fitness Rocks will be at the A.C. Lewis YMCA at 350 S. Foster Drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 12.

Each class will last about 20 minutes, back-to-back. Classes may include dances, body weight training, and martial arts in order to maximize calorie and fat burn.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable athletic clothes, with sneakers that support dance and exercise movements. Those involved should also bring water and a towel.

An on-site diet and nutrition specialist will be at the event to give answers to any questions about starting a healthy lifestyle.

Instructors include Gracie Perkins, Adrian Brumfield, Joey Godfrey, Tanesha Craig, Tarrell Robertson, and Wanda ZumbaDiva. The event will be hosted by comedian Van Chew, and will feature a special musical performance by Love-N-Pain
