BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - In Louisiana's history, more than 250 police officers have been killed by gunfire since the 1900s.
According to statistics, the number of officer deaths so far in 2015 is actually a decrease from last year.
With all the chaos that's surrounded law enforcement lately, one local church felt it was time to stop and say thank you to those who serve and protect.
"What can we do as a church, as a community to reward these people who are forgotten heroes," says pastor of the Hearts Ease Family Life Center Philip Pimlott.
"We gave them a care package. So they know there's people who appreciate what you do, and respect and love you for your sacrifice," says Pimlott.
Pimlott says his members brought snacks and treats as a simple way to say thanks. But, even more than that, members wanted to pass on prayers for safety, one day before September 11.
They say that this simple gesture carries so much meaning.
