GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - City of Gonzales officials announced that an area children's park will receive a major donation from a recently disbanded union.
Alvin Chauvin, with the recently disbanded Local Union 102, handed members of Project Kids Kove a check for $33,000 on Thursday.
The union presented the donation after finding that the union had funds left over when it disbanded. "When we heard about the park, we knew it was the right thing to do with the money," said Chauvin. "It's a great cause and a wonderful idea for the community."
The City of Gonzales was given the park by Project Kidz Cove through a mutual agreement. The city would handle upkeep, while the Kidz Kove board raises funds and additions for the park.
"This is yet another great day for the city of Gonzales," said Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux. "Through donations such as these, we will see this park grow from strength to strength and thrive for many years to come."
Project Kidz Kove was born from the idea that there needed to be an accessible, family friendly park in Ascension Parish. More on the project and their mission can be found HERE.
