ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana officials are accepting comments from the public on funding a program that focuses on Hurricane Isaac recovery.
According to a news release, a partial action plan allocates $4.3 million to St. John the Baptist Parish for the creation of a small business grant and loan program and obligates the first $1 million so parish officials can start program activities in response to Hurricane Isaac.
Reports indicate the state estimates the storm caused more than $11 million worth of damages to businesses in St. John Parish. They stated small business owners, commercial complexes and hotels suffered the greatest impact.
The parish looks to use the funds to provide grants, loan packages and technical assistance to businesses affected by the 2012 storm.
The formal public comment began Wednesday and runs until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22. After the comment period, officials will submit the plan to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for final federal approval.
