GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - The Gonzales Police Department has arrested one man and is searching for another after a police chase.
According to police, on September 4 a vehicle was spotted swerving on West Worthy Street. When police pulled the vehicle over, the passenger, Ahmad Johnson attempted to get out of the vehicle. Police instructed Johnson to stay in the vehicle and ordered the driver to get out of the vehicle. That is when the driver sped off with Johnson still in the truck.
Officers say they then pursued the vehicle until it crashed on South George Street. Both Johnson and the driver the proceeded to run on foot.
While at the scene of the crash, investigators discovered a Glock 22 semi-automatic handgun, 13 grams of crack cocaine and 20 grams of heroin.
Police say they were later approached by a female at the scene who told them that a man had entered her home and was hiding under her bed.
When police arrived at the woman's home, they found Johnson hiding under the bed injured from the crash.
Johnson was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released into police custody.
Johnson was transported to the Ascension Parish Jail where he has been charged with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, possession of heroin, possession of Schedule II CDS, possession of marijuana or synthetic cannabinoids, illegal carry of a weapon and flight from an officer.
He is currently awaiting bond.
The driver of the vehicle has not yet been apprehended and the incident remains under investigation.
