Police: Broadmoor High School teacher arrested for allegedly having sex with student

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department say a math teacher at Broadmoor High School was arrested Friday evening after allegations he had sex with a female student on multiple occasions.

Michael Lydell Woods Jr., 34, is a math teacher and assistant football coach. He is accused of engaging in consensual intercourse with the student on two separate occasions.

Woods, a Broadmoor High graduate, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1st round (32nd) of the 2001 MLB June Amateur Draft from Southern University.

He was hired in 2014 as Broadmoor's baseball coach and assistant football coach.

In a statement, a representative from the East Baton Rouge School District says "We received notification of the arrest late Friday afternoon. The Human Resources department will handle the personell matter in accordance with the school board policy."

He is currently being booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student
