SORRENTO, LA (WAFB) -

A Sorrento Councilman who is accused of filing a false claim after the BP oil spill pleaded not guilty in Federal court on Thursday.

Randy Anny and his wife Barbara, who also pleaded not guilty, were each indicted on two counts of wire fraud, and one count of conspiracy after they allegedly filed a claim stating their boat and trailer were damaged by oil in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon incident.

The claim asked for $7,800 to repair the couple's boat and trailer. Anny allegedly sent in a falsified receipt for repairs.

Both were released after their not guilty pleas. If they are found guilty, they could face up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
