BATCHELOR, LA (WAFB) -

Officials say eight people have requested to be taken to the hospital after a natural gas leak occurred in a neighborhood south of Batchelor, LA, which is in Pointe Coupee Parish.

The neighborhood is near LA-1 at Johnson Street.

Officials have turned the gas off. No evacuations have been ordered.

Officials say those en route to the hospital will be taken to Pointe Coupee General and Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary.

Pointe Coupee Parish administration says road maintenance crews were in the neighborhood trimming weeds in a ditch, and they hit an exposed gas line that caused the leak.

The neighborhood is about 52 miles northwest of Baton Rouge.
