BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - As millions across the US prepare to head out of town for the Labor Day weekend, Louisiana travel officials issued a reminder for drivers to use traveler resources and practice extra caution on the roads.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) reported those hitting the road can receive real-time, around-the-clock travel alerts with the "Way to Geaux" app for smartphones. The free app is available for any iPhone or Android device.
Officials said Louisiana drivers can also access road updates on weather conditions, construction and critical incidents by dialing 511. Those traveling from out of state can call 1-888-762-3511 to get into the system.
Secretary Sherri LeBas announced all oversize and overweight vehicles will be prohibited from traveling on Louisiana highways on Saturday and Sunday to maximize the safety of other travelers on the road.
