BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl was arrested Tuesday after authorities received a tip that he was possibly selling drugs out of a home.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Tyrus McDowell, 35, is charged with molestation of a juvenile, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and resisting an officer.
A warrant was issued Monday for McDowell's arrest related to the sexual assault. According to the warrant, the BRPD SVU was contacted on August 21 after a 14-year-old told someone she had been assaulted.
The document stated the victim was interviewed Thursday and told authorities the incident happened sometime around July 4.
According to the probable cause report for the drug arrest, investigators went to the house where McDowell was allegedly selling drugs.
Police reported seeing McDowell selling drugs. They said he dropped a small "crack rock" and ran inside when he saw them.
The report stated a search of the home turned up a small bag of marijuana and a digital scale with cocaine residue on it.
Authorities said McDowell has been arrested in the past on charges of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, second-degree battery, second-degree kidnapping and carjacking.
It stated he also has been arrested several times on drug charges.
