We all get tired of these national lists that show our state ranking at the bottom. Unfortunately, there was another one this week. Bankrate.com completed research to determine the best states for drivers, and again Louisiana ranked dead last. The research examined automobile insurance costs, commute times, fatal crashes and other factors that contributed to the overall driving experience.
Our state was below average in almost every category. The one that hits all of us in our wallet is insurance costs. Louisiana has the highest auto insurance rates in the country, 40% higher than the national average. Experts say that to fix that one, our state needs tort reform to reduce the number of frivolous lawsuits. Another way to improve our ranking? How about if our state leaders made highway maintenance more of a priority? That would be good.
