ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Deputies with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office were called to a home just outside of the Opelousas city limits Sunday night, around 11:15 p.m.
When deputies arrived, they found 25-year-old Joshua Miller and 27-year-old Jeremiah Miller dead from gunshot wounds.
A witness in the room said Joshua was "horseplaying" with a handgun they thought was unloaded. He picked up the handgun, pointed it at Jeremiah and pulled the trigger, shooting his brother in the chest. After realizing what he had done, Joshua then turned the gun on himself.
"After talking to the witness and from all indications, it doesn't appear to have been an intentional act to kill his brother," said Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz.
Joshua lived in New Roads, LA and Jeremiah lived in Ventress, LA.
