BRUSLY, LA (WAFB) - A barge manufacturing company has notified the Louisiana Workforce Commission that it plans to permanently close its Brusly plant this fall, laying off around 280 employees.
Trinity Marine Products, Inc. has scheduled to start closing the facility on Choctaw Road in Brusly on October 23 and hopes to have everything shut down by November 30.
In the letter sent to LWC on August 20, Trinity Marine Products say that jobs at the plant will start to be eliminated on October 23 and will wrap up with the plant closure on November 30. The plant will layoff a total of 283 employees.
A LWC spokesperson said the state and the company will work to aid laid off employees, providing services to help them with things like job searches, resumes and unemployment benefits.
According to the company's website, Trinity Marine Products makes dry cargo barges which are used to transport various products such as grain and coal and tank barges which carry liquid cargoes.
