BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A gathering at Southern University commemorated the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Katrina made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane on August 29, 2005. Survivors of the storm spoke at today's ceremony.
Laine McCormick told the crowd to have a plan for any hurricane projected to come near the area. She says she did not have a plan in 2005, but learned from the frightening experience during Katrina.
A Southern grad student who rode out the storm in the New Orleans Superdome spoke to the audience, saying to never give up on your dreams, no matter how bad it gets.
