BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Planned Parenthood is headed to court, attempting to stop Louisiana from stripping Medicaid funding from the health care provider.
The lawsuit was filed Tuesday. Planned Parenthood and three of their patients are asking a federal court to issue an injunction to stop what they call Governor Bobby Jindal's "illegal efforts" to stop Medicaid patients from getting care at their locations.
The Governor's Office issued a response to the lawsuit, saying it is without merit.
"The Medicaid provider contract between the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals and Planned Parenthood gives either party the right to cancel the contract at will with a 30-day-notice," said Communication Director Mike Reed. "Governor Jindal and DHH chose to exercise that right to cancel."
