A young man in Central never forgot his friend, and now he wants everyone else to remember that friend for years to come.
Ashton Kennedy was in High School when he first met Trevor Sims, a young boy who was dying of cancer. Trevor’s last wish was to feed the hungry, because his family had once gone without food. In the last two years, communities in and around Baton Rouge rallied to make a "Trevor’s Wish" fundraiser a reality by raising money and gathering food throughout the month of September. Kennedy took it a step further and raised enough money to commission a statue of Trevor to be built in downtown Baton Rouge.
“People being able to bring their kids by the statue whenever years down the road to look at Trevor's as an example of how to raise her kids and what you want your kids to be like,” Kennedy said. “To put others first, to make a difference in the community.”
The statue should be ready in under a year. It will feature a bust of Trevor on a granite pillar with Trevor’s own wishful words engraved on it.
Officials at the Baton Rouge Food Bank will kick off National Hunger Month in September with Trevor’s Wish 3 and proceeds go to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. More information can be found HERE.
